History of the IATSE
IATSE, the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees consists of Moving Picture Technicians, Artists and Allied Crafts of the United States and Canada, AFL-CIO, and CLC. This alliance began in New York in 1893. It is a crossroads between the labor movement and development of the entertainment industry. Stage hands were becoming increasingly frustrated by the working conditions of owners and producers, so they came together to fight for better. The Make-up and Hairstylists Guild acts as a labor union for the make-up artists and hairstylists who have shaped the trends we follow today.
